Governance
The Tin Code is governed by the ITA Board of Directors and managed by ITA, which engages independent external assessors as part of the Tin Code implementation.
ITA BOARD OF DIRECTORS
ITA is governed by the ITA Board of Directors created under the Articles of Association comprising senior employees or representatives of ITA member companies. ITA members have the right to nominate a director for the ITA Board of Directors.
The Board of Directors are the ultimate decision makers over the Tin Code standards, procedures and participation. Should there be any disagreement the way forward would ultimately be decided by ITA Board vote according to the procedure set out in the Articles of Association of ITA.
ITA membership comprises tin mining companies, smelting companies and recyclers. For more information, click here.
ITA also has Associate Members in China. This is a separate membership group who do not have the right to nominate a representative to the Board of Directors and do not play a role in Tin Code governance or participate in the Tin Code.
ITA SUSTAINABILITY TEAM
The ITA Sustainability team is responsible for continually developing the Tin Code standard. They propose updates to the standards of practice and systems, taking into account current and upcoming sustainability issues, as well as expectations from stakeholders. The team also manages Tin Code reporting.
INDEPENDENT ASSESSOR
ITA engages an independent assessor with relevant expertise and experience in the mining and mineral sector to carry out independent review of company evidence to determine performance ratings. The current independent provider engaged under the Tin Code is Green Horizons Environmental Consultants Ltd.

AUDITORS
As part of the Tin Code Assurance system which supports the Tin Code, audit firms and auditors with relevant competencies register with ITA. Registered auditors are listed here.
Funding
The Tin Code is financed from ITA’s annual operating budget. ITA’s income includes ITA membership fees collected from full ITA members and an annual Tin Code fee for participating ITA E&D Group members (non-full ITA members). ITA full membership fees apply to each ITA member entity based on company type and a series of annual production tonnage ranges.
ITA is part funded by income from activities such as organising conferences, laboratory work by ITA Labs, consultancy work, and selling publications.
